What do the Common Core State Standards mean for academically and linguistically diverse learners? What can teachers and administrators do to support all students to successfully participate in standards-based language and literacy learning activities? This session will address these two essential questions based on the presenters’ research, publications, and professional development work in districts around the US.
Attendees will learn how to:
- Address the CCSS through the lens of working with ELLs and other at-risk students.
- Employ effective research-based ELA strategies that help all learners make progress towards meeting rigorous, grade-level expectations in the areas of reading, writing speaking, listening, and academic language development.
- Implement effective collaborative practices to enhance the CCSS implementation with diverse students.
